#9 Jets

MIG 15 by Dio.

User Friendliness:

The MiG-15 is pretty easy to start up. All the cockpit buttons are labeled with the exception of the canopy. The panels are laid out well and it isn't hard to find any switches. While the plane is easy to fly, it does not feel natural in any way. The roll rate is constant and does not increase the longer the roll axis is held down and feels very twitchy when trying to do small adjustments. The pitch sensitivity is far too low and the plane will continue to pitch for a while after releasing the axis. The autochaff button does not work because it is not connected to electricity. There is also a slight delay between inputting an axis and the actual adjustment of the aircraft. Mouse aim is useful for landing, but the roll axis is far too sensitive. It feels sluggish yet twitchy at the same time. The gyro stabilization system has quite a bit of oscillation but works well enough. All of that said, the MiG-15 is not hard to fly, it's just not pleasant.

4/10

 Performance:

The MiG-15 is a jet that performs quite well. It has a high top speed of about 190 m/s. It possesses a very high roll rate with a mediocre pitch rate, allowing it to be ok in a dogfight. These characteristics lend it to being an effective interceptor rather than a fighter. It has a mediocre radar with a range of about 1 km. The bombs are pretty hard to use and don't do the most damage. It has a range of about 110 km and an endurance of about 13 minutes which is plenty for stormworks. It has 100 rounds of ammo per gun which is enough.

6/10

Design

This MiG-15 replica looks pretty accurate to the actual MiG-15. It has a few paint blocks that add some detail. The fuselage and wing shape are quite nice and The retracting landing gear looks excellent and hides very nicely into the plane. The cockpit looks complicated and cramped which fits into the vibe of the plane nicely. The wing fences and asymmetric guns are an excellent touch. It has an engine bay allowing the engine to be "serviced" if need be. The paint scheme is a green/brown camo with a blue underbelly. Unfortunately, the landing and nav lights don't appear to work. The weight blocks placed all over the aircraft are a bit weird and don't help with the aesthetics.

7.5/10

Overall: 5.83/10

 Feedback and Suggestions

-Tune gyro to be less weird

-Texturing of the paint would make it look even better

-Check connections

F7j by Ping

User Friendliness:

The F7j is easy to start taking just a single button and the readouts are easy to understand and correctly labeled. Selecting which weapon you want to fire is easy and you just need to press the corresponding button to select it. Thats about where the good things end though. The throttle goes into negatives which can lead to really long response times. Rolling and pitching at the same time is nigh impossible and handling overall quite poor

4.5/10

 Performance:

The general Performance of this jet is lackluster, not being able to roll and pitch at the same time, having a range of around 75 kilometers and having basically not working missiles reduced both effectiveness and performance by a lot. The good things about this aircraft is the small size, the fact that it reaches a good speed of 145 meters per second, and that it is rather cheap. Other than that the combat performance was mid at best.

3.5/10

 Design:

Its a very nice looking jet, nice color palette and some very small color variations to keep it interesting. The one of the few things that could be done better is hiding the piston for the canopy but that might not be possible. The nose is also a bit long but again, without a long schnoze it would drop out of the sky after 40km so its understandable. The exposed jets are a bit of a shame but thats impossible to fix. I wouldn't change much about how it looks now

8/10

Overall: 5.3/10

 Feedback and Suggestions

-make better missiles

-fix roll and pitch issues by not using control surfaces but fin rudder or normal fins (hidden with xml for example

 - make throttle axis go from 0 to 1 function is (x/2)+0.5

F1 Leone by B0mps

User Friendliness:

The F-1 Leone's buttons do as one would expect, however a couple are mislabeled and one isn't labeled at all. For example, the on key isn't labeled and the green and red navigation lights are labeled "land lights". There is no light for the stabilizers which is a small annoyance. The buttons are laid out well and aren't hard to use. The plane flies strangely. The roll rate is pretty terrible and pitch rate is fine when pulling up but when pushing down it is very bad. Yaw axis is just fine. With the stabilizer active the plane is very easy to control, but it's not maneuverable. The weapons are easy to arm and shoot.

4/10

 Performance:

The top speed of the Leone is decent at 133 m/s. It boasts a solid range of 130 km. It has a poor pitch and roll rate making it hard to dogfight with. It has plenty of firepower with 4 light AC with 100 rounds of ammo each. The missiles do not track at all and act as rockets really. It has a mediocre radar with a 1km range.

4/10

 Design:

The F-1 Leone is an adorable jet. It's fat and has little wings with a pleasant desert camo with light blue underbody. It is mostly clean design with some Italian flags on the side. The cockpit has some painted blocks inside which add to the experience of flying this fat tube. The jet exhaust is hidden behind paintable indicators that light up to look like jet exhaust but better. The intake has a ducted fan which is a very cute little detail.

 Feedback and Suggestions

-Texturing the paint would add a lot for the aesthetics

 -Tune gyro

-Make missiles that work

Shadow Stalker by Bucket_of_Bolts

User Friendliness:

The Shadow Stalker has a screen in the cockpit that displays all the engine data and fuel and estimated range. The buttons all do as one would expect. The canopy control button cannot be pressed from the seat. On takeoff the plane often will roll to the side because of its narrow landing gear and will then explode. There is no yaw control strangely enough. None of the axes are labeled, but since all axes are bound as any other aircraft this is not really an issue. The guns are a toggle to fire, which is an annoyance, and there is no readout for the amount of ammo left. The signal flare button does not have electricity. When flying without pilot input the plane is very stable. When maneuvering the plane feels not great but not terrible. The roll is a bit sluggish but the pitch is sufficient. The gunsight is a dim red, making it hard to use effectively. There is an ejection seat, however, it does not have its own parachute meaning the pilot already has to have one on before ejecting.

3.5/10

 Performance:

The Shadow Stalker has an ok top speed of about 130 m/s. It has a range of about 240 km and endurance of 35 minutes thanks to its massive fuel tank. It has mediocre maneuverability. The missiles work quite well and track the target they're shot at most of the time. Each gun has 100 rounds which is generally enough.

5/10

 Design:

The Shadow Stalker is a fairly bland looking jet. It is all solid gray with no other colors on the outside. The fuselage is a bit bulbous in some places but is fine enough. The wings are a nice shape. The autocannons and missiles are mounted behind the cockpit on the fuselage of the plane and look out of place. There is some logic visible in the cockpit. The cockpit looks messy and not very cohesive. The gear retraction is quite nice and fits well into the fuselage.

4/10

Overall: 4.17/10

Feedback and Suggestions

-Tune the gyro to not be super twitchy

-Add fins in the wings to aid the roll axis

-Check logic connections

Gorton Stingray by Shimozukachi

User Friendliness:

Both a throttle and an RPS lever which is both unnecessary and confusing. There is no ground steering which makes ground handling difficult. It likes to be a little quirky on takeoff sometimes and decides you're not allowed to live. The rockets and cannons are quite far out on the wing which makes it hard to aim them properly. This issue is also not helped by how incredibly twitchy the controls are. The compressor also stays on during flight which both makes an annoying noise and wastes electricity. The cockpit layout is decent and has important information like ammo and speed in central positions so its easy to keep track of them.

3/10

 Performance:

The Stingray has a decent top speed of 130 m/s. It has a solid pitch rate, but pretty poor roll and yaw rates. It doesn't fare too well in dogfights because of its poor roll and inability to do fine adjustments. It also fails at doing ground attack because of its complete lack of an ability to do fine adjustments. The guns have 40 rounds each which would be enough ammo if hitting anything was a possibility. The rockets are borderline useless because they pitch up slightly. It has a massive fuel tank with 10,000 L of fuel giving it a range of around 200 km which is plenty for stormworks.

4/10

 Design:

The Stingray has a unique flying wing configuration. The guns and missiles are mounted on funky little pods on the wing. The paint is fairly bland, with a blue underbody and gray on the top with some red stripes. The wings have a significant bulge for fuel storage. There are some iron crosses on the wings. It has ropes to look like control surface wires. Cockpit layout looks quite nice and usable. The wing shape is cromulent. The landing gear hides into the plane well. Overall, it doesn't do much great or horrible.

5/10

Overall: 4/10

 Feedback and Suggestions

- Use a (good) gyro

-put weapons closer to center

- make compressor turn off

CF-105 by High Frag

User Friendliness:

The CF-105 has some issues, the visibility for the pilot is bad and can't see the area directly in front of the plane because there is a beam in the way. Its not possible to enable the radar or fire missiles from the pilot seat which limits what you can do. Startup is simple and only takes a few buttons and a lever. Almost everything is labeled correctly and does what it should. The "systems" button doesn't seem to do anything and there are 2 fuel gauges even though there is only 1 fuel tank. The yaw is very annoying because the plane constantly pulls to the side. The staircase is pretty neat and makes it easy to get in.

4.5/10

Performance:

The Aircraft has a respectable top speed of around 343 knots, which translates to around 176 meters per second. It could be higher for the type of aircraft it represents, but still does decent. The maneuverability is pretty decent too, but cant be used to great effect seeing as this aircraft does not possess any form of short ranged anti vehicle weapons. It only has a total of 2 radar guided missiles which are being powered by xml edited booster, which disqualifies that part of the vehicle, meaning the entire armament of this plane will be disregarded for the observations of this review. The lack of a gun or any further weaponry is severely hampering this aircrafts performance in any kind of fights. Add to that the completely lack of any countermeasures like chaff, and it becomes an even more inviting target for enemy vehicles specialized in interception. Again the yaw comes into play, because it really hampers the ability to fly in a straight line towards any targets, which is bad.

3/10

Design:

The CF-105 arrow looks like, well... A CF-105 arrow. It is painted almost entirely white which wouldn't be a problem if there was some detail like painted maintenance panels or structural lines but there isn't anything there so it looks rather bland. The interior of the cockpit is also entirely white. Shape is decent but It really needs some paint.

4.5/10

Overall: 4/10

Feedback and Suggestions

- no xml edited booster for the challenge submissions

-a more detailed exterior and interior would increase the looks by a lot

-make it accessible for a single person to use effectively

RAM-108E Phoenix (Heavy) by Re0ns

User Friendliness:

The Phoenix has a very basic cockpit setup. All the buttons do as they should. There is a keypad that has no apparent function. The flight characteristics are very docile. It is very stable, but at the cost of being unable to turn with any sort of swiftness. It consistently slowly pitches up, which can be fixed with a little trim. It feels incredibly underpowered. The engine will turn off if the plane is pitched up too much resulting in a stall which can only be recovered from if the ECU is reset by turning the engines off and on. The missiles are very easy to fire. The front landing gear is not a wheel and is horrendous to take off with and also makes ground handling a pain.

2.5/10

Performance:

The RAM-108E handles like your average steam liner, incredibly slowly. The speed is also really not the best with a max speed of around 340kph. There is no shortage of small missiles and they do hit things at times. There are also larger missiles but those have performance xml edits and won't be rated. Its range is about 130km which is decent for stormworks standards. In dogfights this plane is a death trap because of its bad speed, bad turning, and lack of a parachute

3/10

Design:

The Phoenix has a clean design. It has no detailing at all. There is a single blue stripe going around the aircraft. The cockpit is very basic and gray. The shock cone intake looks pretty cool, and the cockpit fits well into the fuselage. The rear landing gear looks good, it fits into the plane very well. The front landing gear is frankly horrendous. It is not a wheel.

5/10

Overall: 3.5/10

 Feedback and Suggestions

- Make a good modular engine

- Use front wheel for landing gear.

 - Add more fins for maneuverability
